Computer Games For Kids

Till not too long ago, Computer Games for Kids were very simple. The kids didn’t need to think much, didn’t need to apply too much skills and the graphics were very poor. They were played just for fun, but as they were so basic became boring pretty fast and the kids went off to play with something else. Nowadays, this changed dramatically. Video and computer games have incredible graphics and make our kids feel like participating in a movie.

There are many good things about Computer Games for Kids. Basically, and that’s the main point which makes them so attractive, they are fun! Many of these games improve hand/eye coordination. The result of this is that the kids can do things quicker and more correctly. Also they stimulate kids on a competitive basis. It makes them feel good to overcome an obstacle and move up in difficulty levels. Most Computer Games make our kids think what they are gonna do next or plan several steps ahead, which helps hugely in developing their problem-solving skills. Furthermore they can play games with friends and over the internet with or against people from all over the globe. This is a great way to become part of a group, discuss, exchange ideas and meet people, even though just virtually, from many different countries. Also there is no exclusive club, anyone can play computer games, even if they have disabilities or are not very good at sports.

On the other there are many things that are not so good about Computer Games for Kids. There are, unfortunately, many games which promote violence. Scientific research shows that this can affect kids negatively in many different ways. Children can get so used to violence that they might become violent in real live, not just in the virtual world and the invisible line between what’s ok and what’s not can get erased. Also when someone gets excited or scared, the body produces a hormone or neurotransmitter called adrenaline. This hormone normally helps the body to get ready to defend itself. It increases the heartbeat dramatically and sends more blood to the muscles in order to allow them to act more quickly. It is definitely not good for the body to be in this state for a prolonged period of time and the stress could cause various health problems. Also many games are all about beating somebody else and not about working together in a group to achieve a goal. Many parents are worried that their kids will apply these lessons and values in their future by not being helpful to others, becoming egoistic or even violent.

There is also the issue that many children complain, after long gaming sessions, about pain in their hands, backs and necks. Some also feel nausea from the overdose of movement and colors on their screens.
But in the end of things it is up to the parents to choose the right games for their kids, limit the time where a kid can play and leave them enough time to play outside in the “real”.
