I have a young son, and he loves all of the generic Sesame Street games, Disney games, etc. But, I've always had fun with the Sims PC platform games, and my son seems to be taking an active interest in the structure & overall concept of the games I play.
While the newest & most expensive Sims games probably wouldn't be appropriate for your kids, there are similar games that they may take an interest in.
