What are some inexpensive places to have a kids birthday party?

Aside from the usual Chuck E Cheese, are there any interesting and inexpensive places to hold a 6 yr olds birthday party?

Your house is a good place. Have a dress-up party (princesses, pirates, whatever) and decorate according to that theme. If it's a girl's party, make it a tea party, and serve little sandwiches and mini-cupcakes. For a boy, make a "buried treasure" cake (with a surpise baked into it!) and have a treasure hunt.

If the weather is nice have it at a park if there's a pavilion.

You could take the kids to a matinee movie for the birthday party and then come back to the house for cake.

Do you have a city park nearby? Or a lake with a picnic area? When my kids were small it didn't take much to entertain them. We'd go for walks in the woods with small paper bags, we called it "going on a treasure hunt" They would find rocks and nuts off trees and different little things to put in their bags. When we'd get home we would show each other our "treasures"

Well Chuckie Cheeses is always a blast but if you are thinking like dirt cheep just go to a park and set up some fun games! Age appropriate games ofcourse but fun none the less. HAVE FUN!!!

The best and most memorable birthday parties are those held at home – with a whole gaggle of friends just hanging out, playing some games, good music, snacks, pizza or hot dogs, birthday cake – just chillin'.

If the kids are old enough, most local rec centers rent out their pool for two hours. They supply a room for cake, drinks and opening gifts. Not too expensive and you save by not having to decorate or hand out treat bags, etc.
