Why do some parents let their teen throw an alcohol party?

Why do they do it? I know a lot of kids whose parents are both home when the kids are getting trashed and are okay with it. They just go to their rooms and don’t really interfere with it. Some of these parents even supply the alcohol for all of them. And the thing is I know some of these parents and they are nice hard working people. I guess there’s more than meets the eye? Do you think these are irresponsible parents, and if you are a parent, do you let your kids do this, and if you are a kid do your parents allow this?

Not very good parents and weren’t ready when they thought they were.

because that way they know where they are and they know that they aren’t at some crazy house or driving.

some of my friends parents let us drink in there house as long as we don’t leave.

they know we are going to drink if they let us or not, so why not at their house so they can make sure we are ok.

My mum let me have alcohol parties from 15 years onwards, probably cos that way she can keep an eye on me, cos she knew i would go out drinking either way, this way she knew i was safe

i think they’re irresponsible parents…that’s how children start becoming alcoholics at such a young age

I think these are ineffective parents. Their reasons probably fall into one of two categories: They figure, "They’re going to do it anyway, they may as well do it on my watch." This is a slippery slope. They’re not necessarily "going to do it anyway." I didn’t try alcohol until I was 19 because I had strict, loving, responsible parents. Teenagers are not supposed to drink alcohol. Their parents need to help them learn age appropriate behavior and how to delay gratification. If their parents approve of teenage drinking, the kids will do it whenever they can, wherever they can.

The other reason is even worse. Some parents want to be "the cool parents" and they cannot tolerate having their children disappointed.

Either way, they are bad parents. Kids who are not their kids get drunk at these parties and get into car accidents or get sexually assaulted or get in fights… It goes beyond just their own drunkard kids. I hate these parents.

Haha my friends mom let us come over and she got drunk with us!But my parents would never let me do it.

  7. Jenn says:

because the parents rather have them drinking at there house then some random person the parents don’t know and to keep an eye on them

No my mom dont allow it but i figure its more safe for a kid to be home and drinking instead of roaming around with even more kids that are drunk in a car……. when i have kids I will not let him or her drink unless they are the age that is allowed to drink………but i might let my son or daughter drink with me on there 18th birthday but thats just a thought Rules can Change between now and when im 18 thats 3 years from now so yeah n plus im not having kids for a minute

There are two reasons, I think, for a parent to allow a party with alcohol: either they don`t understand the dangers of drinking or they think if they let their child is allowed to have alcohol, they won’t get into other trouble. If I was a parent, I would never allow such a thing. Instead, I would educate them about the danger of drinking and other harmful behaviors and tell them that I expected them not to engage in these behaviors until they were of age.

From the age of 13, my dad let me drink alcohol/bought it for me whenever I wanted(he is an alcoholic). I never threw any parties, sometimes my best friend would come over and we would drink, but mainly I drank with my dad while playing cards/darts/ect. Some parents think that if you let the child do it in your home, they won’t go outside the home and get drunk, possibly in trouble. I am talking about my dad and I would drink a fifth of whiskey in one night. I am 21 now, but I don’t drink too much, fear of becoming an alcoholic myself being as I have been drinking for eight years now. I would never let my children drink that young but when I was younger, I never did go to any parties to get drunk,so it kind of worked (never got an mip in all of those years/no other trouble/ and kept straight a’s in school). But I do know alot of parents that let their kids drink and they have been in alot of trouble with the law, school, and just took it way out of control, some of the kids now are alcoholics around the age of 22-24. I would have to say my dad and these parents are irresponsible because it doesn’t normally turn out to be good for the kids.

the firs time my daughter asks to throw a party with alcohol there i will tell her no and do not ask again, she can wait until she is 21 to drink.

  13. 2girls1teenage boy :] says:

they want their child to be accepted by their peers.

  14. imperfection is beautyy. says:

Some parents just don’t care, others figure that their kids are going to be drinking anyways, so they prefer it be under their watch.
I’m not against it, but I do find it completely awkward and weird. I can’t imagine being drunk under the watch of my parents, I do and say stuff that I wouldn’t want them knowing.

  15. Peace and Love Foreva!!!!!!!!!!! says:

    this is illegal!

  16. Mrs. Keller says:

My parents let me do it because they are European (Italian, French)

And over there, their is no drinking age. It’s just a cultural difference. Over here the culture is mostly it’s irresponsible. Over there, it’s natural.

  17. Feker says:

I don’t think this makes them bad parents
they probably figure that its better to have the kids drinking inside the house where they are somewhat safe than drinking outside where the parents are clueless about where they are or what they’re doing
like my parents really don’t care if I drink inside the house
granted they wouldnt’ let me throw a party and invite other ppls kids and let other kids drink b.c they don’t want to go against the rules of the other kid’s parents
but they don’t care if I drink b/c we’re from ethiopia and in ethiopia there is no drinkin age and drinking isn’t a big deal and they grew up drinking inside their house with their parents
but since we live in the US now they won’t break the law and allow other ppl’s kids to drink at our house

  18. smedrik says:

Parents do this because they want their teenage children to like them and think they are "cool" parents.

    Yes they are irresponsible parents.

  19. Laa L says:

there irresponsible and would rather be there friend then their parent!

  20. BABYGURL101 says:

Because the parents really don’t care and it’s probably the way they were raised or they think that alcohol is o.k. for them to drink since they’re at home and not roaming around somewhere.

  21. Catherine says:

i fu*kin hate parents who let their teens do this.

I’m 16, more mature than anyone my age or any 21 year old, and i am not allowed ANY alchol under any circumstances.

so i’m finding other ways to get it. but i still can’t get more than like, one drink at a time. so no drunkenness for me :(
